( source)īut I do think that one aspect that gets a little lost in this movie is just how truly horrifying and evil conversion therapy is. It makes fun of conversion therapy and how ridiculous the concept is, and hits that point home hard. There the very idea of conversion therapy is lampooned and satirized, and Lyonne is able to discover and accept herself, as well as her eventual love for camp bad girl Graham (played by 90s Goth Queen Clea Duvall). Natasha plays Megan, a naive cheerleader who is sent to a conversion therapy camp because her parents are convinced she’s gay. Let’s give some high praise to the 1990s cult lesbian dramedy “But I’m a Cheerleader” starring literal goddess on Earth Natasha Lyonne. At Nightlight, everyone has something to hide from the campers to the “converted” staff and cagey camp director, and it quickly becomes clear that no one is safe. His final destination: Nightlight Ministries, a conversion therapy camp that will be his new home until he “changes.”īut Connor’s troubles are only beginning. His SAT scores bombed, the old man he delivers meals to died, and when he came out to his religious zealot mother, she had him kidnapped and shipped off to a secluded island. Where Did I Get This Book: I received an eARC from NetGalley.īook Description: Connor Major’s summer break is turning into a nightmare.
